Keep in mind I`m not going for the `street dropped to the ground` look here...I just want something that looks clean/smooth with nice lines. I also need it FUNCTIONAL as in SNOW . So 20`s are out of the question.
Here`s what I`m currently looking at:
I recently came upon what I think is a very good deal on a set of 17x8" polished American Racing Atlas` ($120/wheel). They are for GM trucks with the following specs:
Bolt Pattern: 6x5.5
I do believe that I would really like the looks of the 17" wheel so so there are only 2 things keeping me from pulling the trigger right now (Here`s a picture by the way for those not familiar with the Atlas).
1) How far will they stick out? Here`s what I figured...I`m hoping that someone can confirm/correct this:
*OEM = 16x7
Atlas = 17x8
That`s 1 extra inch of wheel...split by each side, of the wheel, so the fact that the wheel is 1" wider alone sets the wheel out an extra .5"
OEM = 20mm
Atlas = 0mm
This difference will set the wheel out another .75" (rounded).
Total the wheel will be out another 1.25" (which doesn`t seem like much to me). Since I`ll be adding Xenon Fender Flares this should look pretty good IMO. I don`t `think` the 1.25" will make a big difference as far as suspension wear (as many have commented in the archives...but I believe they were talking about 2-3" offset changes), but I`m open to opinions...
2) Tire Options
*If I were using a 16" wheel idealy I`d throw some 285/75/16`s on them. Unfortunately this equates to a 285/65/17" tire in the 17" series...the closest that is carried by many tire manufacturers is 265/70/17 (which wouldn`t be the worst thing in the world...good height, just less width). Is there a bigger tire that could be used that I`m missing here?
Thanks guys....I REALLY appreciate any insight here...
