In a month or so i`ll be getting an 87 suzuki samurai from my dad,i have plans to put a 3 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift on it. With that lift how big do you think i could go with my tires? Would i want to go as big as possible or maybe keep it a little smaller so it doesnt strain the engine as much? Also as im sure everyones aware, the engine aint too big and powerful so what are the best mods to get the full potentiol out of it? When lifting it six inches and addding bigger tires is there anything else i will have to change or replace? Also what tires would you suggest,i`ll be driving it in alot of mud, sand, wet grass, and on gravle roads qite a bit. Thanks for all the help.Forums : General Tech Questions : Suzuki Samurai build up (1509 Views)

If i buy tires that are 33/12.50/15 will they fit on a 15/10 rim or do i have to get a 15/12 rim? With the difference in price i`d much rather get the 15/10`s.thanks.November 7, 2003
15x8 will probably clear better but 15x10 will look better and give you a wider stance.15x12`s are too wide for a 12.5 tire.November 7, 2003
Thanks,15x10 it is. Any suggestions on tire sizes? At the moment I`m thinkin 33x12.5x15 super swamper tsl`s. Will my engine have trouble pulling these with stock gearing? Its got the webber carb and air cleaner, doesnt do much but its something. And my original questions still stand. ThanksNovember 7, 2003
you shold`nt have to upgrade antything as long as you stick with 33`s or smaller.Your stock motor shoul`t have too much trouble hauling them around.get some bfg mud terrains they work great in any conditions and terrain.[ 11-07-2003, 03:21 PM: Message edited by: mr74chevy ]

ok, you need lower gears, i know a guy with a sammy with 5.13`s and 29" ssr`s, and, if your gonna go with 6 inches of lift,do some research on a spring over axle conversion, that will give you about 5 inches of lift, and incredible flex. here is a link, www.puresuzuki.comthat is calmini, they will have all the suzuki stuff you would ever want, and more.

get 15x10 rims if you like having your beads come off the rim.. also you`ll need lower gears like bayou said. Do a spring over insted and you`ll have alot better flexNovember 7, 2003
Definitly lower gears with 33`s! I know a few people running samurai`s, and even the guys on 31`s regear just to get anywhere. And I would run 15x8`s, not 10`s. You`ll be more likely to lose a bead running a 10" wide wheel, and it will be 20 times harder to get the bead set again.November 7, 2003
We`re making progress. So i need to change my gearing, what gearing would you suggest? I have no idea how this works on a shaft drive vehicle so a simple explanation of things would be great too. How hard will this be to install?I`ll go with an eight inch rim. I`ve looked at the bfg mud terrains but i want something a little more aggressive,I want to be able to take this thing practicaly anywhere. Are the super swamper tsl`s a good choice? And would you reccomend 33`s or 31`s? I will have to drive this thing on road sometimes so keep that in mind too.
Now the lift,This spring over axle lift sounds like the hot ticket. What does a spring over axle conversion do? Is it simply just relocting the shock mounts to the top of the axle? Or does the axle ride underneath the leaf springs? Whats going on.
Thanks alot for all your help.

an SOA is pretty much jut welding on new spring perches on top of the axle so you can put the leaf springs on top of the axle, its more in depth than that but, its a pretty simple concept. look at what calmini has, i know they have a bolt on kit, if you dont want to weld.November 10, 2003
go with the bfg mudders, cause you aint going to go anywhere, trust me i got a sidekick with 32,s any there is not enough power to go any where, you got a stick or auto?, any of your going to splash thru any amount of water than move the intake hose to a dryer location![]() |
