July 14, 2004I have a 1991 Toyota 4x4 with a 3.0L V6. I hit a wash out on a dirt road the other day and the metal battery brace that wasnt bolted down hit my positive battery clamp and melted it. The battery guage went down and the truck died. I put a new clamp on the battery cable. the cluth seems to have gone out also. I was able to crank the truck with it in 1st gear and it would go 10 or 20 feet down the road and die. I could do that 3 or 4 times and then not be able to crank it again unless it sat for a while. Its not the starter because that is brand new. Its not the fuel pump or fuel filter cause i checked those. The battery is also new. Possibly it could be the alternator but the truck would crank every now and then. Any ideas? Thanks.

July 14, 2004Probably the battery. Was the battery new before or after the accident? If it was new before and you assume it should still be good now, I would replace it.
July 14, 2004Does everything electrical still work properly in the truck? If not .... or if so .... look for either a burned out fuseable link or blown fuse in the ignition circuit .....
July 14, 2004the battery was new before the accident. i should also mention that the RPM guage died, it flipped around and now just hangs there and points straight down. all the electrical stuff works, except now the truck will not crank or even try to turn over. i guess first thing will be to try a new battery. thanks for yalls help.
