August 14, 2004I just sold my axles from under my 4x4
I had Spicers Powerlock in the front and a detroit in the rear since 1992 or 3
the Powerlock was loosened up to where I would say it needed to be rebuilt, again in the front axle so relatively low miles on the toughest LS made.
the detroit was as perfect as the day it was installed.
price difference, I think I had more $ into the Powerlock as they were out of production when I wanted one so I had to hunt the world for a core to rebuild.
you could try Truetrac or something like that but you will be spending just as much as buying a full Detroit.
Limited Slip can mean about 50 differnt things so research what is available for your axle, they almost all use a sacrificial friction material that gets used if the tires are not `locked up`
most have such weak break away pressure to make them useless in heavy vehicle applications
I say do it once and never think about it again with a Detroit
I am going to use them front and rear this time around
