April 27, 2000My 92` Suburban needs new exhaust from CAT back. What I would like something that causes little restriction and has a nice audible sound. I have thought about a glass pack, but the local cops enjoy giving citations. Any ideas or past experience is most welcome. I`ve got till June, since my inspection sticker expires and my muffler has too many holes to last another year.

April 27, 2000Well, you have two real choices,
Flowmaster, or Gibson. They are both verry evenly matched. But Flowmaster is a little louder, and Gibson might give you slightly more power or gas milage. Many people on this site seem to prefer Gibson, I personally prefer Flowmaster, but read up, and see whats best for you, Flowmasters are usually cheaper. Anyway, these are your only real choices, Glassspacks, cherry bombs... they are all cheap products, spend a little extra, and get the bast for your money.
April 27, 2000Actually Flowmaster will give you better performance and there are other mufflers out there that have copied Flowmaster but cost less they are the same. Go to a muffler shop and find out what they no if anything. Summit racing is the cheapest place to get Flowmasters.
Tests prove that Flowmasters only take one horsepower away.
July 28, 2004I am looking at putting some dual exhuast on my truck but i really really really don`t want to get the "rapping" sound that I hear so many trucks have. I am looking for a low powerful rumble, to avoid the rapping sound will i need to buy an entire exhuast system from magna flow or somebody like that or do i just need to find the right muffler and stick some 3" pipe on?
July 28, 2004Unless you have the 8.1 in a HD truck, 3" is overkill if you`re going with duals. Velocity promotes better low end torque, and for most small blocks a single 3" is more than sufficient for the flow needs at higher revs.
Give us more scoop on your budget and specs, and we can give you better ideas.
August 2, 2004Okay... well I`m looking to spend as little as possible since I am still in college. But I don`t want to cheap out so anything under 500 (CDN) would be alright with me. My truck is a 2003 GMC Sierra z-71 which is used mainly during the school year to get me from college back home (2hrs) to work and then back to the city. On the weekends its used for some light hauling of toys like a seadoo, boat and horse trailer. I don`t have an air intake on it yet but i do have a K&N in the factory box. The truck is nearly stock aside from chrome trim pieces and a set of 265/75/16 BF Goodrich A/T on Helo Maxx chrome rims. I hope that helps you make better suggestions, and thanks for the ones already posted.
August 2, 2004Crap, I can`t believe I wrote all that and didn`t mention it has the 5.3L under the hood, which is soon to get a hypertech programmer I hope!
