January 2, 2003It sounds as if it`s a bit rich under initial hard acceleration. Does it only do this when you apply heavy throttle or does it also do it if you give the gas a quick stab to say 1/2 throttle?
Keep in mind that if you have a stock chip program and intake mods then you may have problems. Your intake velocities will likely have changed, and the chip would be calibrated for the stock engines characteristics.
The stat may also be a point to check, but 180 really isn`t all that cool. Personallly I run a stock temp stat on my truck, or slightly warmer.
I would probably try in the following order...
1. good gas
2. adjust timing
3. remove chip
4. swap the thermostat
Keep the stero off to see if you hear any pinging such as Yelostoner suggested. Modern knock sensors react very quickly in most cases, so you may barely hear it even with the stereo off.
I would test between each change to make sure you pin down the primary cause. This might help you with future mods or problems.
