I have a `94 Chevy 4x4 with a 4.3L V-6. I would like to put new exhaust on it to give it a nice sound. One muffler shop recommended running a glass pack into a flowmaster. Does anyone have a truck with this combo?? Or does anyone have any ideas? Any and all are greatly appreciated.Forums : Engines : Exhaust Question (1927 Views)

You dont want a glasspack and a flowmaster. Glasspacks sound like crap on a v6 and on top of that you dont want two mufflers...you`ll lose horsepower cause its more restriction. Just go with the flowmaster and just thatFebruary 15, 2003
Shop around for cat back exhaust then install it yourself.February 16, 2003
my buddy has a 94 s-10 blazer with the 4.3L v6. he`s got a single-in-dual-out flowmaster on it and it sounds pretty good. sometimes the kits can be more expensive than if you just take it to a local muffler shop, so i`d say shop around for prices. as far as running two mufflers, i haven`t seen anyone doin that.February 16, 2003
i dunno our cop cars here run mufflers and then glasspacks after that...... i don`t know why they would if it hurts performance...February 16, 2003
Cops running glasspacks?!? How did you happen to be able to see this?February 23, 2003
flowmasters sound good on v8`s but not that great on v6`s. had a 97 gmc w/4.3 vortec and put single in/dual out flowmaster on it with turn downs right off the muffler. sounded ok, but still had the bumlebee on cocaine buzz to it.February 23, 2003
quote:Actually, for a 6 popper, that`s exactly what he would want, almost. I know a lot of the people with pipes on 300s are running a turbo style muffler and a glasspack. Believe it or not, the glasspack helps take some of the buzziness out of the exhaust. Shouldn`t have too much of an effect on any horsepower, at least in bottom end, since glasspacks are a straight through design. Probably hardly any backpressure running through a glasspack anyway, so too much backpressure shouldn`t be a worry. This is probably what I`ll end up doin with my truck.....turbo style muffler and a short glasspack.

I would go with torque masters Its a good match for the 4.3L. It makes youre V6 sound like a V8.Here where I live I paid $369.00 for the catback exhaust system and they installed for free. It worth it.

I think getting a cat back exhaust system like gibson or flowmaster would be better than combing a muffler and a glasspackFebruary 25, 2003
my cousin husband has that same truck and he has flowmasters on it.It sounds pretty good.NOthin like v8 though but it still sounds nice![]() |
