February 22, 2003After replacing plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oxygen sensor and adjustment of timing, my `93 4Runner is getting 12.5 mpg!! Any help would be appreciated. I cannot believe Toyota put this motor on the market, it has the power of a small 4cyl. and the appetite of a big block V-8!!!

February 22, 2003Huh, that`s strange. One of my close school buddies has a 1992 Toyota Truck 4x4 (more or less exactly what I have) except he has the 3.0L V6. She gets something like 17 mpg average (the engine is rated at something like 17-20 mpg). You may have some restrictions in your exhaust system (check your cat converter) or in your emission control system. Also, you may want to check your vacuum hoses as well. Any damage/obstruction to those things will result in loss of fuel economy.
The V6 (3ZVE) isn`t bad actually. It gets something like 160 HP and uses just a little more gas than the 22RE`s.
February 22, 20031st let it breath better- exhasut, air intake, free/high flow cat?, and headers
IS it lifted?? if so this could take away some of the mileage and performance if you don`t have the gearing properly.
February 22, 2003Open up the exhaust, air intake, big bore throttle body, honed and balanced injectors, header, jacobs ignition. I have the 3.0lt. 3VZE motor and at last dyno had 234hp to the ground, w/4.56 gear ratio and 33x12.50`s. The next mod will either be the long block or else a sbc swap.
February 22, 2003Lethal Toy, what mileage are you getting with that?
February 23, 2003on average (if i do the calculations corectly) 24-26mpg in town and 26-28 on the highway (tailgate down, cruise control on and cruising at 105kph)

a 3.0 comes stock w/ 150. Headers, intake, throttle body would put you at about 180 at the most, more like 170ish. Then the Jacobs ignition and the honed and balanced injectors, I seriously ain`t seeing you gettin almost 240hps, TO THE GROUND just w/ that crap. I`d like to see some dyno sheets on that. Even w/ a completely honed and balanced intake manifold along w/ the bb tb, and a 3 angle valve job, you might be pushin like 210, but that`s w/ all the other stuff added. Not saying you`re a straight up liar, but I find that seriously very hard to believe, ESPECIALLY seeing as how 150hp`s from the flywheel translates into about 120hp`s to the ground, if that much. Peace, Wesley
February 25, 2003He wanted ideas, i did not run my entire spec sheet for what i have into mine. I have more cash into my motor than it would have cost me to do a sbc swap. For me to tell him to spend the same kind of cash on his as i did mine would be foolish, not to mention everyone would end up flaming me for not doing the swap already.
I am running the efi ported and balanced intake manifold, the engine shop (since I am not that skilled at it yet) port polished everything they could get their hands on, 3mm oversized throttle body, honed balanced injectors, K&N filter with the comp air intake, headers, no cat, Ultra Flow exhaust, electric fan conversion, 110 amp alternator, Jacobs Ignition, Jacobs energy coil, Jacobs Wires, CentreForce Dual Friction 1300lb Clamp Load max with Torquer Flywheel.
The 3.0lt can run up around 500hp. The cost ratio is way too high. Thats just with using Downey equipment, naturally aspirated.
Maybe, after you have more than 3 posts, maybe then I will find that I need to prove myself to you.
Buddy wanted some ideas, I gave them, if he uses them, then great if not then thats fine too. It`s all about ideas. I gave them free and didn`t ask for your criticsm.
February 26, 2003Bubba,
if I was giving you criticism, you`da known it. And for another thing, after you learn that it`s not the number of post that shows how much you know, it`s HOW MUCH YOU KNOW that shows HOW MUCH YOU KNOW! Seriously, come on, w/ your fancy lil ignition wires and your K&N filter, about the only thing you can "polish" is the outside of the intake manifold, the inside of it, and the TB after you get done boring it. Now, you build up a 500hp 3.0 V6, and I`ll kiss your Yankee @ss! After just about everything I can think of that you can do to that motor just short of slappin on a custom blower or turbo setup, you might come up w/ 230 hp`s, but NOT AT THE REAR WHEELS!!! DOA Racing Engines produces like a 225hp 3.0 for like $10k, but that`s not to the rear wheels. Even if you bored it 30 over, you`d still be shy of about 30 hp`s to the rearwheels. Sorry, until you show me reciepts and dyno sheets and a realistic list of mods. Not trying to be a d!ckhe@d by any means, but I call a spade a spade. Just cause I`m from the south doesn`t make me stupid, btw, there`s nothing wrong w/ being a Yankee, cause I`m proud to be a Redneck(educated). Notice, I`ll always say PEACE at the end of every post, cause it`s not meant to be taken the wrong way. PEACE, Wesley
February 26, 2003Whoa...somebody need to chill out just a little.....
Comments like that are not called for..especially at the "5" post mark.....
If you really feel like being here and hope that people will talk to you....chill out
LethalToy has a very real potential for having 240 rear wheel horsepower out of a 3.0 Toy motor...thats a pretty common number out of those...I am just suprised that he doesn`t have more ...500 HP might be pushing it...but 240 is VERY believable...so until you spend 2 years on this board, get to know people, and ask your share of stupid questions.....CHILL OUT
BTW....PEACE would be a VERY good thing right about now....
February 26, 2003Oh...and Welcome to the Board
February 26, 2003Appreciate the support Yelo.
Wslytoy: You show your ignorance too quickly, head to any toyota forum and you will be embarrased by your comments.
As for kissing my "Yankee ass", I am Canadian born and raised. So you would be kissing my Canadian ass, but if you want to kiss my ass don`t do it with your tongue out, like you probably would.
At no point did I call you stupid. Your other posts (not on this thread) are intelligent.
You want some respect on this board? Whether it be from me or others, it better be earned cause remarks like yours have been won`t get you any credit. I rated you 2 stars for a previous intelligent/helpful post to another member. If you hadn`t I would have only given you 1 for being an ass. Contribute helpfully and you earn respect. Thats what I have tried to do since I joined, and I respect alot of others that have done the same. Newer or older members it doesn`t matter. There are quite a few newer members than me that I have all the respect in the world for and would love to meet them some day and talk shop. Attitudes like yours (whether your from the South or not) make everything tougher for people that love this past-time or those of us that live it.
Re-introduce yourself to the board and quit being a knob. I am willing to let bygones be bygones. I don`t hold a grudge until the hand i offer is refused.
BTW I agree. Peace.
