May 25, 2003Maybe somebody here can help me out. My 91 toyota, 22RE, with 140+k miles on it never gets more than 12mpg. Not even on the highway. The engine has never been rebuilt, and I`m thinking that that could be the problem.
When I drive hard, it usually gets around 9mpg, but when I drive it easy, or on the highway, around 12mpg. There is nothing noticably wrong about the engine. It revs up to 5000 RPM no problem (I don`t do it often, so I know that`s not the cause of my low mileage.)
The only thing about it that bugs me, is that on hot days (like every day in South Texas), the fan goes on, and the truck doesn`t seem to have as much power. It doesn`t seem to rev up as quickly. Is it normal for the fan to have such an impact on the motor, or not?
If I can, I`m going to get the engine rebuilt this summer, and get a paint job and some body work done. Then it should be one pimpin truck...
I might also get a spray-on bedliner!
