One thing about the cats. If you have a high flow good quality cat, it`s about the same as not having one at all. I`d say that if you compared the two there wouldn`t be a 3HP difference between a high flow/quality cat and having none at all (of course I can`t support this with hard evidence as I doubt there are any dyno sheets proving this floating around on the net). Exhaust technology has come a long way, the performance of catalytic converters proves so.

October 31, 2003Negative, that`s reserved for more the likes of signmaster, Yelo and one or two others on here. Not I. Thanx though.

October 31, 2003You guys have given me a lot to work with, but I still have no clue. A local big block Chevy man says to run cat back duals with glasspacks to the back side corners, works well on the Vortec 454. I like that plan. I`m going to have it built custom, cat pipes are 2 3/4", then we`ll reduce them to 2 1/2" the rest of the way, but what type of glasspack or tube to use is where I`m at. I see various lengths and diameters out there, any recommendations?
Also, decided to go with the K&N full air kit and increase the air flow sensor. Is the Granitelli one the best? Suggestions please. Programmable chip will follow. I`m trying to get it right the first time.....performance & NASCAR tone.
October 31, 2003For NASCAR sound give Dr. Gas a call. He does exhaust system for a good part of the Winston Cup cars. But without a motor build up, you won`t get it quite right. Necking down the size isn`t the best idea. Reducing pipe size is reducing horsepower; unless you`re already oversized, then reducing would be a good idea. If anything, keep the 2.75" pipes. Read the link that I posted below. Good information there how Maganflow bested open headers. Not hard to put together either.....not hard at all.
Glasspacks are a matter of personal preference when it comes to sound. Personally I do not like them or endorse them, unless they`re Magnapacks by Magnaflow. You get the sound of a Magnaflow with the loudness and power of a glasspack. But then again signmaster would argue that regular Magnaflows are glasspacks.
As for your intake and MAF, I can`t help you there. Us Speed Density boys dunno nothin about no mass air flow.

October 31, 2003Proof Magnaflows are best even on cars without cats: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/69238/index.html
Though the car is carbed, Magnaflow`s put out 2 more horses and torque than open headers. Talking about an impossible feat.....that takes know how. Sure it`s only two of each....but let`s see you try and beat open headers with your own mix. The welded muffler (i.e. Flowmaster style) didn`t even come close to matching the Magnaflow system or the open headers. While the muffler`s weren`t Flowmasters (dunno what they are...like none I`ve seen before; guessing Flo-Pros) they are still most likely chambered like Flowmasters.
There`s only one muffler that I know of that has a chambered/straight through combination, and that`s Hooker Aerochambers. I still doubt that they can match Magnaflow`s performance. Aerochamber`s are a very quite wierd setup...simple but wierd.
Where`s signmaster, I figured he`d done and thrown his dollar`s worth of knowledge in here by now....

November 1, 2003Btw, that dollar`s worth of knowledge was a compliment. You know how people say "that`s my two cents", well it`s signmaster and...........forget it. Just know it was a compliment.
