May 17, 2001I thought you audio guys might like this. At www.mybigbronco.com they have a picture of a guy who set the world record for the loudest stereo, 169 decibels, 48,000 watts
May 18, 2001That is the Team Gates bronco. It is sponsered by Kicker. They have 48 Solobaric L7 10" s and a thousand watt amp for each. It used to be sponsered by precision power, but kicker has the best subs. I dont like the red paint job, it used to be painted silver.
May 18, 2001Hate to burst your bubble but its not the world record any more!
The world record is 174 decibles but i dont know much about it. But a guy at my school is about to break the record. He built a sub and now Atomic sponsers him he has 2 10" subs 50,000 watts each with a 5,000 watt amp. Breaks 200 decibles.
May 18, 2001Hey 460, do you even have a clue what you are talking about? That bronco holds the world record, and just broke its own record. It has the new world record. And im sorry, but there is no way in he11 that there are 2 10" subs that can take 50,000 watts. Quit talking bull$hit. Plus they take the decibel level from a certain distance away for the car, not right next to the speaker.
May 18, 2001IM SORRY BUT THE MIC IS NOT PLACED AT A DISTANCE FROM THE CAR, BUT IN THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE AS SPL OR DECIBLES IS A MEASURE OF PRESSURE,IN THIS CASE SPL(SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL)IS MEASURED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND AS FOR TEAM GATES THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY HELD A RECORD BUT IM NOT SURE WHO PRESENTLY HOLDS THE RECORD BUT WILL BE SURE TO DETERMINE THAT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
AS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE HAS DONE JUDGING AT SUCH EVENTS AS SPRING BREAK NATIONALS.
May 18, 2001I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD THEM IN HIS BLAZER HE DESIGNED A SUBWOOFER AND ATOMIC CUSTOMIZED THESE SPEAKERS FOR HIM I TALKED TO HIM SOME MORE AND THE 2 15"s ARE 50,000 WATTS EACH AND THE 12"s ARE 50,000 WATTS EACH ANDTHE 10"s ARE 35,000 EACH HE HAS 2 OF EACH. I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT I HAVE HEARD THEM AND SOON HE WILL HAVE THE WORLD RECORD WHEN HE GOES TO A SHOW! His name is brandon watch for his name in the future....
They are so special because it has a 12" voice coil and the 12`s weigh 132 pounds each....They are so sensitive that 1 speaker with 100 watts could hit harder than any MTX or kicker sub.
May 18, 2001460 bronco what in the hell are you talking about. You need to stop believing everything you hear and start to learn something about systems before you start to talk about it. Just for a laugh what kind of amps is he using. Let me guess they are 100000x2. Is his whole box built out of cement. Oh yeah last guestion what kind of air space is each speaker using?? 25 cubic feet.
I cant believe you would even post such a thing.
May 23, 2001Ahhhggg!!! Where to start?!?!
Ok, different sactioning bodies measure differently with different meters. On a LinearX meter the Gates Bronco pulled a 169, on the other meter (forgot what it is called) it did a 174.9 dB, on the dash, 10" in and 6" up from the passenger side corner of the windsheild. Gates is the DB Drag world record holder. I believe it is Greg Cobbs (or something close to that, my internet is WAY to slow to check up on this) is in a close second place, using something like 8 drivers or something (very impressive considering Gates is using 48).
Kicker subs are not the best, there is no best. It all depends on what you need, and your budget. There are subs out there that will completely aniallate the L7`s, and sound better doing it. Digital Desings 9515, Treo CRX, and GZ Nuke Plutonium are a few of the many that come to mind. By the way, Alma uses custom made L7`s as well, the motor structure is much more beefy. They will be availabe soon, so Kicker can pass the production rule of competition. I don`t understand the custom subs, a regular L7 will take 1000 rms for short burps no problem.
460Bronco, you have NO clue. 200 dB is IMPOSSIBLE when using air as a medium. Is he going to fill his car up with water to get it metered? Above 191 dB it is not sound, or sound pressure, just a damn explosion (literally). Also, the most I have seen a sub take (and survive) is roughly 5,000 rms to a single DD9515. Running 5 second burps it managed 159.8 dB on the dash. It is in a car that 2 of my friend`s built as a project that got way outta hand. 50,000 watts is rediculus. There are NO amps that large, and even with 100% effiecency (yea, that`s possible) it would take about 3500 amps of current to run ONE of those subs and the amps powering it. That would be a dozen of the largest alternators available, plus the power wire would have to be at least ten 0-guage wires.
Ok, a 12" voice coil? That is impossible just because of the fact that the basket of a 12 measures 12" in diameter. Maybe a 12" coil on an 18" sub, but that has not happened either. I have seen the custom speakers that Atomic makes, I have even talked to them and their dealers about getting some. They are nothing great for the price they are. Much better speakers can be had. I want to see the box he houses such beasts in. It would have to be at least triple layer 1" MDF with LOTS of fiberglass and bracing every few inches, or else it would be blown apart. Hell, that car with the 9515 used double layer 1" MDF, 2x4`s bracing it every 18", and a layer of glass on it. After the runs there were spider webs in all the paint on the wall because of the force flexing it. 22 ft!3 box, ported.
Alright, had a lot of anger to release, had a rough day (although I found out that the cute girl I went on a date with the other day wants a whole lot more ). No hard feelings towards anyone, I just don`t like things that are insanely un-true to be thrown around as "facts".
May 26, 2001adam728 - you know way too much about this stuff, oh and good luck with the chick
