January 20, 2002Well, the jenson in my GMC is shot! Im through with it! I`m buying a new one Tuesday... What kind do you guys reccomend? and NO MORE JENSON! I need a kind that will work in the cold. I`m going to look at the models Tuesday, i just would like some brands... any ideas? And to that jenson... im guna drive down the highway and throw it out the window!!!!!!!!!
January 20, 2002Check out Pioneer. In my opinion they are the best bang for the buck. Very reliable as well. I am running a DEH 1300, which is their cheapest model, and it works great. I have installed tons of Pioneer head units, never seen one fail yet. Had a Kenwood die on me, and seen a few Sony`s bite it as well. By the way, it has been around 10 degrees out here and my player works great still. My old Kenwood would lock up and stuff at that temp.
January 20, 2002Thanks adam728! I was reccomended Pioneer by a few other people. I will check out the DEH 1300, and their other cheaper models, because im not buying a $200 cd player! thanks again!
January 21, 2002I`d definatly go with a pioneer. I`ve had mine for almost 3 years now with no problems. Works great even at -20 or -30.
January 21, 2002I would look at Kenwood. I had one and got hit almost head on by an F-350 doing 70 mph and i was in an S-10 and it survived and it was 7 years old to start. My brother just got a new Kenwood. 47 X 4 and he got it for $180 with a flip face and sweet display.
January 21, 2002My old Kenwood (KDC-3011) and my friend`s new Kenwood (KDC-911, or something like that) both do not like the cold. The cd function on mine would not work till it got warmed up inside the truck, and both ours hated to display numbers when cold. That is common with LCD`s though, but I can`t figure out why the Pioneers work fine even when below zero.
Also (it may have been fixed) Kenwoods that are 2-4 years old had a notorious problem with the RCA outputs dieing. The ground would break internally and you would be left with no RCA`s unless you wanted to tear apart and solder it back up. I don`t know if this holds true for this year and last years models, I have not been following the audio world as closely anymore.
January 22, 2002Hey i got a quick tip for you boys that have bad LCD displays in the cold. You know that little case they give you when you get ur CD player, put your face in that and take it in the house or wherever you are going inside. And if it is cold outside then the case will fit in your coat pocket easily, if the face is in outta the cold it last longer and displays. I like to call this tip taking care of my CD player, b/c anything worht having is worth taking care of.
January 23, 2002I went to Wal-mart today (not probably the best place to get one) and i picked out a pioneer with a flip down face. Its $180.00, with a 1 year warranty, and a 90 money back satisfaction guarantee. I like the price, it has great display, clear buttons, (if you wanna press them in the cold with gloves on) and its got a warranty... my favorite part. for an extra $10 i could get it with a remote, but i dont really feel the need. I talked to the guy there, and he said he had a pioneer, and its great in the cold. I didnt buy it yet, what you guys think? sounds like a deal to me....
January 23, 2002Pioneer all the way. I have one in my truck now and it was in the one before this one too. I have had no problems with it, and it has even been under water!
January 24, 2002I am from montana and it can get pretty damn cold there and my jvc cd player always played even in the below zero times. I have had really could luck with the three jvc decks that i have had and the one clarion was also just as good.
January 30, 2002i love my sony xplod but it skips when it is cold and it pees me off!!!!!
