November 29, 2002what has anyone heard about (or experienced) with the tantrum 1200.1 it produces over 1400 watts at 4 ohm mono. making an amp that you dont need to run at a low ohm is something good. That way you are not beating up the amp and making it work so hard. Anyway, what are your opinions?
December 30, 2002It`s an amazing amp that can definetly pound out some power. Running an amp at 2 or lower ohms lowers the resistance of the circut between the amp and the speaker. Think of it as a river and a dam. The higher the ohms, the less water that goes through, and vise versa. You don`t want too much water to go through, i.e. flooding. There are amps that can handle .5 ohms and amps that that "cut out" at anything under 4. If you decide to get the amp, make sure that you have the speaker power behind it to really justify it or you risk damage to your equipment. Don`t buy an item because it`s the newest on the scene or someone "pushed" something on to you.
December 31, 2002yeah I know all that and that is a new way to put it (river and dam) I have two solobaric L7 12"s in a sealed box. I am currently running the rockford fosgate 1500 bd amp to them. But I think I may want to get a different one.
