December 6, 2002I`m looking to get some speakers for my tuck and am wonderign what brand I should go with. I need 6 1/2`s & 5 1/4`s. I want 3 ways and I was looking at Sony and Pioneer. I know I`m definitely getting a Pioneer deck. What`s ya`lls opinion on who makes better 3 way speakers.
December 6, 2002Sony and pioneer both make good coaxials... also look at eclipses and there is one RF coax I heard the other day that astounded me.. it sounded incredible... like a really good component set. So check the RFs, and the other companies you listed... Also, whats your price range?
December 7, 2002Try looking a some kenwood, infinity, and all the others names named in the other posts. With all of the choices out there your sure to find some that have the sound your looking for. Good luck.
December 7, 2002Personally, I would go Pioneer. From what I`ve HEARD (actually helped setup and listened to) Pioneer seems to sound great, and is very crisp and clear.
For better help, what kind of truck is it? And where do you plan on installing the speakers?
December 10, 2002The truck is a `97 Nissan Extended Cab. The 5 1/4"`s to go in the front doors and 6 1/2"`s in the back. I went to my local Best Buy to listen to various speakers, but they only brand that were on display that were 3 ways were the Sony`s. They sounded much better than any of the 2 ways they had on display. But then again, it isn`t a fair comparison (2 way vs. 3 way). I`m gonna look at some more stores to see if I can find some that have a bigger selection of 3 ways on display.
December 10, 2002Another question, do I need bass blockers for the speakers in question? BTW, I am planning on getting the Pioneer P7400MP CD\MP3 deck. Any comments on it?
December 10, 2002I meant the 8400 not the 7400...
December 11, 2002yeah I got a qusetion for you...how much are you paying for it? why not get the 740mp premier?
December 11, 2002Bass blockers are not needed, if you set it up right. The three ways should have filters built in? If not, the speaker companies have no clue wtf they are doing. Find something to put in your door if you are using door speakers. The doop panel will vibrate with the sound waves, causing interior distortion (sound waves in truck sound like crap). Make sure you speakers aren`t blocked by your seat or your legs, otherwise your mid-range and high-range will sound like crap. That is the only reason I put MbQuarts in the dash of my rig, too get that nice crisp sound.
December 12, 2002put higher quality speakers in the dash because when the waves travel through the door panels they get distorted (like said in the previous post) The dash speakers will bounce off of the windshield and still head toward our head and still sound crispy clear.
December 13, 2002I`m a walking advertisement for Pioneer. I used to buy all the really expensive brands (Fosgate, Alpine, JL Audio, Eclipse, etc.) but when I decided to do a full-on system in the truck I have now, I decided to go with all Pioneer (it also helps that my friend is a factory distributor, so I got everything at cost). I`m running 1,000 watts, and it sounds incredible. The highs are extremely crisp, almost to the point where my 2 10"s can`t even keep up! My Pioneer deck works perfectly, and CDs RARELY skip. I am totally convinced Pioneer is by far the best stereo bang-for-your-buck. As for the bass blocker, I wouldn`t use them. If you find that after you install everything, that you have too much bass, just lower the bass levels with the bass control on your CD player. I will agree that Eclipse makes excellent mid and high range speakers, but you`ll also pay at least twice as much for them. If you`re not building a competition system, go with Pioneer. Hope this helps
December 15, 2002Thanks guys. I got my deck installed, now I`m saving up for the speakers and amp. I tell you what, Nissans are a sinch to install car stereo`s in. I will prob get speakers first, amp later and one day a sub (or 2). I figured out that my truck has four 6 & 1/2"`s in it. I`m looking pretty hard at the Pioneer TS-A1667. Just an FYI, I got that Pionner deck (8400) for $319 at BuyDigitalDirect.com. Ordered it Tuesday night and received it Friday morning, no tax $, no shipping $. That deck retails for $550 at my local Best Buy.
