January 22, 2003i just got my hands on a deck today a clarion 50wx4 with 2 preouts, i have the opportunity to get a rockford fosgate 10" right now for cheap, should i do it? what is a good set up for this truck? (ext cab), i dont want to win any competitons just have awesome sound. My plan is to get a set of 120w co-axle speakers up-front stock in the back, 1 10" and a 4channel 400watt amp, would this combo work?? any suggestions? ALso if anyone has dimensions or plans for sub-boxes to fit under the rear seat please let me know thanks.
January 27, 2003id run the 120w front speakers from the head unit, 50w per channel is pretty loud if its rms, then use the amp to crank that 10inch rockford. should produce a fair amount of punchy bass! nice subs rockford fosgate.
January 27, 2003i just thought, my speakers run at 50w per channel, using an hi-fonics eagle amp and its pretty damn loud so if you run your components from the head unit id get another 10 inch sub and use the amp to run those, i got 2 12 inch vibes in my ford and it thumps....go large...go loud!!!
January 28, 2003yeah you can run the whole 400 watts to the 10 sub - should be like 200 watts rms if its not a mono block amp. yeah you could run the speakers off the stock head unit, just turn the treble all the way up and the bass as low as it can go. since you probably don`t have a sub control it will sound distorted when you turn the bass up. on your radio if it has a sub control, that is different.
January 29, 2003I agree you should be able to run the whole system from that...but I wonder though...how many times will you wish that when you max out that volume knob could turn up the Tunes *just-a-little-more* really though it should be fine to run what you suggested.
Oh yes just anote ...as you porobably already know that the HU;s built in amp might be 50x4 but remember that itself is bridged internally and that the HU as all has such a small MOSFET chip that the MAX wattage of ANY hu on the market including TOP Names like Clarion and ALpine and PREMIER etc. they can only offer is 27MAX rms....(Stereo amps are regulated to show what they test at but HU are not rated as you would think and the tests are not as stringent....ask around to IASCAA people they will tell you that max HU will put out is 27watts rms and usually they dont even buy a HU with a BUilt in amp...but they cost more for one with no amp...>GO Figure?
