May 9, 2004i have a clarion 400W amp running 2 dual voice coil subs which are wired in parralel (2 ohms)10" clarion 400w subs. The power is nice, but it draws huge from my battery. I was thinking of adding 2 6x9`s and using the 400w amp to power them and my front 3" speakers. So i am now in the market for an 800w 2 channel amp for the subs which, i should now be able to wire in series?? i think? can anyone give me input on this?? Anyways my main question is on e-bay why is there 800W amps from anywhere from $50-350?? there all 800W right. Can anyone suggest what i should be looking for, Thank You.
May 9, 2004they`re not all 800 watts. The easy way to tell if they`re a true 800 watts is to make sure its 800 watts RMS. Also, compare the fuses that the amps use, take two random 800 watt amp for example. One may have a fuse thats rated 20 amps higher, that one most likely puts out more power.
May 9, 2004on true watt amps i think you will pay on average $1 per watt
May 10, 2004ive seen a few true 800 watt amps run through ebay with a good price on them but always email the seller and ask if they guarantee it will work when u hook it up..this way you dont get screwed if it dont power up when its all conected. ill keep a look out or you and send you any links i can find to a good priced auction. personally i like kicker, the punch (rf) and mtx in amps

May 10, 2004i stick with kicker amps. They tend to always give you more for your money and top class quality too. the kicker KX600 amp is said to only be 600 watts, but infact it is 740 watts.
May 16, 2004I would deffinatly look into both Kicker and MTX amps, I personally have had both and am pleased with thier performance. If you are having a really bad problem with your battery not making enough juice ie.. headlights and interior lights dimming ect I would look into a capacitor. A 1/2 farad cap should be plenty when you get your second amp and it will help eliminate the massive pull from your battery when you get really loud peaks in your music. As far as buying amps I always use the motto "You get what you pay for." Power is not cheap much like adding horsepower to your truck, I am running a MTX 432D right now, its powering 2-12" mtx subs. I have it wired in parellel so I am getting a two ohm load and it works fine, they say its good down to 1 ohm but I am not gonna push it!! I haven`t had any experience from ebay but I would be weary about buying from there, thats just me though. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to PM me.
