May 12, 2004Took the munchkin to the monster trucks on Sunday. She likes watching them on TV when they are on, so I figured I would give it a shot.
I wanted to go Saturday, since they had a big show going, but got vetoed by my wife who had made other plans already. I thought Sunday would be a bust since it was Mothers Day, but as it turned out my wife was sick and wanted us out of the house so she could be miserable in a quiet house. LOL
Tough Truck got won by a little `Zuk with 99 horsepower. He beat out several rigs which should have taken him, including a big block Jeep and a couple strong running small block trucks. Several "poser" trucks got some fairly big air and ran strong.
I thought the Monster trucks would end up intimidating my little one once we got there up close. I had planned on keeping a distance so be safe, but she wanted to go into the stands, which were only about 30-40 feet from the close lane. Other than covering her ears, she loved it. Her favorite was by no surprise, the Monster Mutt, since "his ears flop when he jumps Daddy". LOL
Freestyle was rather tame for most trucks, since the beach sand didn`t allow the jumps to retain a good peak. Donuts resulted in some monster roosts, spraying so much sand you couldn`t see the trucks. Some trucks got some good air over the cars.
Grave Digger did the last freestyle, and freaking ripped the place up, using some of the jumps as berms and almost leveling one of them completely. I had gone to spend some time with my daughter and see the sponsor and show trucks more, but I can see why that rig is always a crowd pleaser.
Overall a good day. My wallet ended up about $80 lighter, but that`s after letting my daughter "win" some prized at the boardwalk carnival on the way back, not to mention the parking, soft pretzels, drinks, etc. I`ve spent more money on a lot less fun.
So it turned out our little "girly girl" liked the monsters. Guess I thought that her wanting to wear a pretty dress made me think she wouldn`t.. good surprise for me for a change.
Now, if I can somehow convince her to want to go see the top fuel cars, or the F1 race at Indy. Hmmmmm.....
