November 4, 2004I have a 97 chevy k1500. recently broke the passenger mirror, glass portion only. I just bought the replacement mirror piece, which has a 4-in diameter round mounting ring/bracket on the back. i just can't seem to get the old one off. i can push/pull the mirror out enough to get my fingers between the mirror and the housing, but that's it. inside the ring/bracket there are some locking teeth which apparently lock in when the mirror is pushed onto the bracket mount. anyone know how to remove the old? if i drilled out a hole in the center and try to work the teeth loose from there, would I risk damaging whatever's behind the mirror backing,i.e. wires?
