June 22, 2005whats up I just bought a dump truck with a gmc cab (in real ****ty condition) 79-87 model. I was wondering how you take the cab off the frame to put another one on. and what model and year cabs will on this frame???? Thanks
December 31, 2005To replace that cab remove the steering shaft, transmission linkage, doors, fenders, hood. Shifter"s" all the firewall connections, body mounts.
Then using a floor jack and a board to distribut the weight. Jack up the front of the cab high enough to place a 4x4 board so that the cab will clear the height of the rest of the frame. Then jack up the back of the cab in the same manner.
Have the 4x4s sitting on blocks or sawhorses cut a cupple inches higher then the top of the frame.
You can do this same set-up with the bed.
Once the cab and/or bed is sitting a few inches higher then the highese part of the frame, roll the frame forward out from the remaining body.
Then slide the drivetrain you want to use underneth.and hook everything up.
This can be done by yourself but goes faster with two people.
This set-up is far better then risking droping your cab or bed. Not to mention better on your back.
