October 9, 2005I have an 89 GMC 1500 4x4 with ignition trouble. When you try and start it there isn't any fuel or ignition. I have had it in the shop and they have changed just about every thing that they could think of. Including the brain and many other electronic devices. There have been times in the past that you could grab all the wires under the hood and give them a shake and it would eventually start. This is not the only truck that i have seen do this. There is one of my brother-in-laws, buddies, truck that has done the same thing. We have checked for a loose connection, and none was found, any advise will be helpful.

December 31, 2005I've seen this too. It was a ground that was burnt on a headder. It may also be the ground on the back of the passenger side head of the motor.
If not, try this.
Remove the starter from the block. Then disconect the Oxygen sensor connection.
Then disconect the connection at the back of the head.
And pull that part of the harness up to where you can see it better. You may have a broken, burnt, or pourly repaired wire. That is connecting from time to time.
If this doesn't work try runing the starter off of a battery.
If this doesn't work check your connection at your distributior. If you had to splice the wires to install a tach. You may have a connection going bad there.
Also check your connections inside the distributior.
One more thing. I do not think that you have a crank sensor. But if there is a bad connection there the truck won't run.
But it is probally just a bad wire. Goodluck.
January 7, 2006thanks for the information but what I actually did was change out the distributer and it fixed the problem. becaus what it actually was was the pickup coil.
